Many congratulations to Henry, aged 7, who has been selected to play for the Sussex U9 team.  He represented them in the Southern Zone qualifier for the English Chess Association County Championships.  Playing teams from as far as Somerset, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, South Wales, Wiltshire and arch rival, Surrey, they were fighting for one of the five places in the national team finals.  Henry’s Sussex team beat Surrey in the final and came away with the gold medal.

More recently, Henry’s exciting chess campaign with his Sussex team continued at the national finals, held in Nottingham.  Playing a year up, Henry scored an excellent three out of three wins, cementing his place in the top tier of the county U9 side next year.  The Sussex team did very well, narrowly beating their main rival, Surrey, securing the bronze medal overall.
