Keen golfer James M, currently in Form 5, travelled to Ireland last weekend to compete for his golf club, Dunfanaghy’s, U18 team in the All Ireland Fred Daly Trophy.  Started in memory of Ireland’s first Open Champion, the Fred Daly Trophy has been competed for since 1995.

Sunday’s match saw his team face Royal Portrush in the semi-final of the competition. The match play format is one which James M has enjoyed this summer and he remained unbeaten after his nail biting match went to the first playoff hole; he held his nerve to sink the winning putt. Unfortunately, Royal Portrush earned the victory winning 4-3 overall.

This was a wonderful experience hosted by Rory McIlroy’s home club, Hollywood, and all the boys were able to experience how it felt to hold some of the biggest trophies in the golfing world.
