It was wonderful to see so many Cranleigh Prep and Cranleigh School pupils take part in a charity initiative in the run up to Christmas. With a more limited time frame due to current restrictions, we were delighted that both schools had carefully put together over 125 colourful ‘shoeboxes’ for disadvantaged children in Romania.
The boxes were filled with a range of Christmas treats, from winter woollies, colouring books and small travel games to torches, wrapped sweets and soft toys. In addition to this, we also collected several envelopes filled with over £150 cash donations.
Each pupil selected an age group between 4-16 years, indicating whether the presents were for a girl or boy, then put this information on top of their beautifully wrapped boxes, with £2 taped on top (to help with the cost of transport and distribution).
The shoeboxes have been stored in isolation at the Senior School over the weekend, ready to give to the Cranleigh Rotary Club this week, who will be sending them on to Romania.
