Just before the end of term, there was a great deal of excitement and slight nervousness in the Food Technology Room. The Cranleigh Prep School 2023 Bake-Off competition was about to take place!
Sixteen Form 6’s were invited to take part in the competition and during the preliminary round each contestant had to produce chocolate profiteroles. The standard was incredibly high and after much repeated tasting and discussion six Form 6 finalists were chosen.
With baking knowledge and innovative ideas these finalists had to produce and present a show stopper cake, decorated with a movie theme within two hours for the judges.
Not an easy challenge but they all rose to the occasion with flying colours. The creativity and effort shown by the finalists was phenomenal and the cakes were a feast for the eyes.
Old Cranleighan Alex Winch, one of the judges and the co-owner of The Hilltop Kitchen in his written comments had the following to say: The baking skills of the children were excellent. Cakes were flavoursome and at the same time they created stunning designs!
However, there could only be one winner and after much discussion and tasting the Cranleigh 2023 Bake-Off winner was awarded to Abigail W with Tabitha H as the runner up.
