On Friday 12th January the pupils took part in the annual House Cross Country event. This is a big event in which every child is encouraged to run, represent their house and accumulate points to create an overall winner for the competition.
The weather conditions for the event were as good as we could have hoped for at this time of year. Slightly warmer than expected and due to the cold spell we have had, the course was (for the majority) solid underfoot, making for excellent racing conditions.
The Lower School ran 1km, Middle School ran 2km and the Upper School completed the 3km race.
It was wonderful to see so many pupils taking part this year. A massive 91% of pupils were able to compete and showed real determination and willingness to have a go and take on the challenge of the course. We are encouraged how the children have embraced our attempt to increase the profile of the sport at CPS and we will continue to provide opportunities to see the benefits that running can have.
The results were extremely close this year and every point earnt by the pupils really did make a difference. Something for all pupils to think about next year; could they have made up one more place? Could they have made sure they took part to make up that extra point for their houses that could have made a difference to the final results? There was only 1 point between the houses in 1st and 2nd place.
Results were as follows:
1st: Hearts
2nd: Diamonds
3rd=: Clubs and Spades
