Winning the National Girls’ Championship has always been a tough challenge. Despite reaching the final five times before, we’ve never been able to clinch the title—until now. Yesterday, the girls headed to Highgate with hopes high, determined to see if this could finally be the year.
We fielded four pairs, and the energy was infectious. In the qualifying rounds, three of the four pairs advanced, with Lucinda and Daisy narrowly missing out. Given that Lucinda had only recently started playing, this was an impressive feat in itself. Over the course of the day, Lucinda and Daisy made significant strides, eventually becoming the plate winners.
From three pairs in the quarterfinals, we were down to two in the semi-finals. Unfortunately, Tilly and Ceci lost a close match to our second pair, Piper and Aoife. In the semis, Piper and Aoife were edged out by Highgate in another tightly contested game.
The final, however, was completely dominated by our first pair, Hattie and Olive. They delivered a commanding performance, winning 12-0, 12-2. Without a doubt, they were the best pair, and we are already looking forward to seeing how they fare against the boys in the Prep Schools competition later this year.
The progress made by all the girls this year has been remarkable, and it was so rewarding to see their hard work pay off.
Congratulations to all the girls for their incredible achievements!
