This year at CPS, we’re entering the UKROC competition as Team ERUCA! We’re taking on the thrilling task of designing, building, and launching our very own rocket to compete against other students and schools. This challenge will put our creativity, science, and engineering skills to the test in an exciting and competitive environment!
UKROC challenged us to design a model rocket with specific criteria. Our rocket must carry a fragile payload (two eggs!) and reach an altitude of 790 feet, while ensuring the flight time falls within a precise range of 41 to 44 seconds. The rules change every year to keep things fresh, pushing us to come up with new ideas and innovative solutions. This gives us the chance to learn from our designs, improve, and get better with each competition. The South West Regional competition will take place in March.
The UKROC competition isn’t just about winning—it’s about learning. By participating, we’ll dive deep into aerodynamics, physics, engineering, and materials science. We’ll also build essential skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Testing different designs and materials will give us a hands-on understanding of how scientific concepts work in real life.
We’re all passionate about science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM), and UKROC is the perfect opportunity to challenge ourselves and put our skills to the test. It’s also a chance to collaborate with like-minded students and professionals, gaining valuable experience along the way.
Fingers crossed for a successful CPS UKROC launch this Thursday 27th March!
