Many congratulations to Maddie G, who was selected to represent Sussex in the AEGON U12 Girls Junior County Cup Tennis Team 2016. Sussex is competing in Group F versus Kent, Dorset, Surrey and Hampshire & IOW on Saturday 25th – Sunday 26th June. The strong team of four girls will play singles and doubles over the weekend event with the winning team going on to the national finals.
Maddie made the team after she was invited to a play-off by the county team coach. She won her semi-finals and final game to gain her place on the team. The play-off places were selected based on the player’s LTA rating.
Maddie trains at Guildford Tennis Academy in the week and at her local club, Storrington, at the weekends. She represents the club at U12, U14 and U16 level, and also plays for one of the ladies’ club teams. Maddie has also been invited to attend the Juan Carlos Ferrero Tennis Academy in Spain (during February half-term) with a group of 20 other juniors over the last two years – this involves 30 hours of intensive tennis and fitness over five days!
